Trends SS16

As Spring/Summer SS16 is approaching we look to fashion leaders Gilda Ambrosio, Veronique Tristram, and Pandora Sykes to give us insight into what trends they've been loving.

These trend-setting stylists and editors have reminded me of the trends I've been loving for Spring/ Summer 16. For me, it's all about showcasing pieces of the body that don't usually get to shine. The neck, shoulders, and back need attention too, so why not put them in the spotlight!

Number one for me this season has to be the shoulders. Off-the shoulder tops and dresses look romantic and effortless, especially on a hot sunny day. Classic colors like blue in addition to white are ideal when coming to a style like this. This color combination looks and feel like a breath of fresh air, something we all looking forward to have when coming to our wardrobe this season.

Just like the inevitably chic fashion director of Glamour Veronique Tristam, I too have fell for the romanticism of transitioning sleepwear into daywear. Turn a dangerous night-time camisole into a daring look by throwing it over a simple round neck t-shirt. You can even do the same thing with a lacey slip dress. With this look, a woman can look sexy at all times of the day, even in her pajamas.

I have always been in love with collars and this season they're becoming more regal than ever. With victorian collars making a comeback especially in the form of lace, looking like a queen has never been more appealing. Who doesn't want to look like royalty?

The Road to Success

Being a blogger is much like being on a road trip without a map, you just have to wing it and keep going. It may be hard to believe but in my pre-blog days, I had no idea how to even begin my journey.

It all started in my junior year of college when I started living with my roommate who was a blogger. She was a Youtuber and had a blog ever since she was in high school. Seeing her film Youtube videos and having been able to help with photoshoots for her blog made me want to have a blog of my own. The truth was I doubted myself, especially when I started to look at more successful bloggers and Yotubers online like Jenn Im from Clothes Encounters, Patricia Bright, Estee Lalonde, Zoella, Tanya Burr, and so on. I couldn't imagine myself like that as I had no idea what tools I needed nor what steps to take in order to achieve the title, blogger. After going on a trip to New York I took a lot of pictures with a professional camera I borrowed from one of my family members and having always had an interest in photography, I took an exuberant amount of pictures. I uploaded them in the hotel, edited, and posted them on Instagram, a social media platform I was beginning to enjoy at that time. After having posted those pictures and getting feedback from my friends and some others, I began to gain confidence in my work. After that trip to New York, I wanted to share more than just my pictures, but adventures too. I whipped out my moleskine and started jotting down ideas for a blog. I wrote down posts, collaborations, photoshoot ideas, and overall anything that came to mind. After ll of this, I came to the most important thing of all, the title. What to call my newest creation was the hardest part as I wanted it to sound like me. I started the think of words that described what I aspired to be, creative, innovator, visionary, producer, and after much brainstorming, I came to the word "eclectic". I saw myself as an eclectic person already yet had the urge to grow and become more than what I was, essentially coveting eclecticism. "Coveted Eclectic" is what my blog was called, as it encompassed who I was and who I wanted to be. From there, I looked up some ways to actually create a blog, learned a little bit of code, and made my first real post which was about my trip to New York. I kept posting about my adventures in LA and all the cool places I liked to go. Slowly but surely, blogging became natural and fun. I loved creating posts about the places I was going, even if it just included pictures. Note, at this stage I was just taking pictures with my iPhone! Fast-forward to a year later, instead of sleeping the day away like I would do before, I went out and did a photoshoot with whatever outfit I was loving at the time. Eventually, some my fashion friends and blogger friends have given me the pleasure to be included in their work which became material I could include in my blog. The journey is not easy but it is worth it. I've never been so inspired and into blogging as much as I am now. I love working on shoots, editing, and posting for my viewers to see and even be inspired by. I love when people feel like they can relate to me and how one post can give them a different perspective or even lead them to a new place. There is no step-by-step way to becoming a successful blogger because everyone's journey is different. However, if you want something, go for it! It's all about just starting. Being a blogger is much like being on a road trip without a map, you just have to wing it and keep going.

One thing you don't get to see about a blogger's life are the behind the scenes. Getting out of bed, putting an outfit together, finding locations, and so on can be overwhelming but all of that turns into magic when it's finally uploaded on the blog. Here are the five steps I take in the process of creating a blog post.

1. Get inspired
2. Closet Creativity
3. Shoot/ Find your groove
4. Edit
5. Upload/ Share

1. Get Inspired. For me, I've been wanting to post more outfit pictures. Being a fashion student and living in Los Angeles, I'm constantly around people who have style so I draw inspiration from my environment and connect that to the clothes in my closet. I'm also an avid Youtube viewer so on a daily basis I look up my favorite Youtubers and watch their lookbooks and vlogs to give me some ideas for an outfit as well. Currently I've been into the trend I mentioned earlier, victorian collars.

2. Closet Creativity. Once inspired, I'll look in my closet and play around with the current pieces in my wardrobe. Whether it be experimenting with layers or even wearing a pair of shoes shoved in the back of your closet, it's all about what you want to wear. Here I did this exact thing, as I was inspired by one of favorite bloggers Olivia Lopez and her love for victorian collars for SS16 as well. I took out my favorite collared dress and made it into an intricately detailed top by simply tucking it into a A-line leather skirt. I then went through my shoe collection and surprisingly put on a pair of grey scallop heels that I almost never wear. Topping it off with my beloved fedora I took this look out for a photoshoot for the blog.

3. Shoot/ Find your groove. It's easy to feel discouraged when you feel like you can't measure up to the standard you've set for yourself when coming to photography. Well, going out and shooting doesn't have to be as difficult as it's made out to seem. It's all about using your resources. If you don't have a Nikon or a Canon camera don't worry! I started out using my iPhone and even used a tripod when I didn't have anyone to take my pictures for me. Today, a family member who's an aspiring photographer helps me with my photoshoots. Once you've got a camera, any camera, start playing around in front of it. Learn your angles! See how you like to see your body and outfit come out of camera. If you like moving around, move around! If you like taking still shots, do that! There's a number of different ways to look good on camera, you just have to find the way you feel most comfortable.

4. Edit. No, you don't need to be a professional or have expensive software in order to have decently edited pictures. There are so many apps and programs available to us to edit our photos and make them unique to us. I personally love using the Instagram editing options as well as the Photoshop app on my iPhone to edit. My favorite feature has to be highlight because I love when my pictures look nice and bright. It's all about playing around and finding the look you like.

5. Upload/ Share. Now that your photos are nice and edited, upload! Write some context behind your photoshoot and upload your pics to your beautiful blog. Feel proud? Good, you should! Share your work with others on your favorite social media platform or even personally with some of your favorite people via email or text. Trust me they'll love it, because you love it.

If there are a couple of pieces of advice I'd feel are most important to share when coming to blogging number one thing would be that being yourself is the best way to be. Do what you like to do, be proud of what you produce, and create because you want to create. Secondly, there are endless possibilities in the blogosphere, you just have to make them possible. If you need inspiration, check out other people's blogs! If you need some advice, email one of your favorite bloggers and ask how they got to where they are if they haven't posted about it already. If you want to show some support for your fellow new bloggers, comment on people's blog posts about how much you love their material, style, or interests. The blogosphere is so big and finding people that are just like you is the best way to constantly grow. Lastly, help others out by giving back. If you find that you've become successful in your blogging journey, share your tips and tricks with other people. You needed help along the way when starting your blog, so be that muse for someone else.

 Personal Style

My personal style revolves around neutral colors such as black, white, and brown as well as the romanticism of bohemian and feminine accents. My favorite piece I purchased most recently has been this white crochet dress from one of my favorite brands, Free People. If you see me in a statement dress, it is almost always from Free People. Wearing dresses are a big reflection of my personality as I see myself as being very feminine and sweet. In contrast, I love dramatic fedoras and this wide-brim fedora is one of my favorites. Mules have always been a signature of mine and these are my favorite for SS16 as they are brown and have a medium-size heel representative of the infamous Mansiuer Gavriel mule. This is a look I plan on rocking in different variations especially when going to the beach, festivals, and farmer's markets this summer.

For me, there are 4 items I consider to be my signatures and consistent must-haves to be added to my wardrobe. Shopping on Farfetch has allowed me add my favorite pieces to a wish list and reflect on the looks I've been loving for this season. Here are some pieces I have saved in my personal wish list in correspondence to my 4 wardrobe must-haves.

1. Dresses. I love wearing dresses and lately I've been gravitating towards dresses with longer sleeves as they give off a more bohemian vibe. Lace is another detail often featured in dresses I can't seem to get enough of.

2. Leather jacket. Whether it's hot or cold, you'll always see me with a leather jacket on to add some interest to a casual look. My favorite way to wear a leather jacket is with a white shirt, black high-waisted jeans, and boots. This kind of look makes look and feel edgy, opposite of my usual feminine way of dress.

Left to Right:
Matthew Miller zip jacket  |  Saint Laurent cropped biker jacket  |  Faith Connexion off-shoulder biker jacket
3. Crisp Collar. I love wearing dresses and shirts that have crisp collars as the classic button up shirt is simple yet always piece to be recognized. Alexa Chung is a big fashion influence of mine when coming to this style as this look is one of her signatures.

Left to Right:
Vivetta Sabina dress  |  Valentino sheer tulle blouse  |  Valentino A-line lace top dress
4. Signature shoe. A signature shoe makes the outfit. Always.

Favorite Boutiques

Farfetch provides online shoppers access to their favorite designer's work on an international scale. Boutiques from around the world house looks straight from the runway, giving fashion-forward customers a space to act upon their inspiration either by adding looks to their wish list or carts to eventually purchase. Here is a map of the ten boutiques located in London, UK. As I became aquatinted with Farfetch the boutiques Browns and Feathers became personal favorites of mine.

Here are my top three boutiques on an international scale.

1. McMullen. McMullen is a boutique located in Piedmont, California in the United States.  Its contemporary brands such as Acne Studios, Self-Portrait, and Brother Vellies caught my attention when coming to this particular boutique. I was most excited to find that they had all the Brother Vellies products on Farfetch from shoes to bags. I recently became obsessed with the brand and designer Aurora James when watching her journey on the 2015 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund. Self-Portrait's designer Ha Chong is a mastermind when coming to intricate and dramatic dresses that keep it's femininity and youth with lace accents and even collars. Self-Portrait is another brand I have deeply fallen for and could see myself wearing to events in the future.

2. Cose. Cose is a boutique based in Cremona, Italy that celebrates youthful international brands such as Alexander Wang, Moschino, IRO, and my favorite For Love and Lemons. For Love and Lemons is known for their sheer girly yet daring dresses, tops, skirts, lingerie, and knitwear. Designers Gillian Rose Kern and Laura Hall make this brand signature with it's lace embroidery and consistent incorporation of flowers.

3. Browns.  Browns is a boutique located in London in the UK. Their wide range of some of my favorite runway brands such as Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, and Proenza Schouler is what made me gravitate towards this boutique. My favorite runway show of all time was the Dolce & Gabanna Fall/Winter 2014 collection called "Enchanted Sicily". Ever since watching that Dolce & Gabanna became one of my top favorite designers. Same thing with Valentino as another one of my favorite fashion shows was the Fall 2015 collection known for it's beautiful galaxy dresses. Proenza Schouler is label I found on Farfetch. I fell for its brilliant structure and appealing designs, especially when coming to their clothing.
